Saving...
will not get my money from the goverment in time to meet it but will do the best I can and that is all anyone can do The paymaster says he will pay us for 2 months more in a few days before he leaves here. In 3 more days there will be 4 months due me which will pay all and more too I expect to send this by Eli Cooper who has been here for 4 or 5 days and is going to start back tomorrow. E. J. Loveless is at the 72 Ind but I have not saw him I understand his brother is quite sick and that he is going to stay with him until he gets better and is trying to get him discharged Lieut John Creek I understand is quite unwell but not so bad but what he is up most of the time All of the boys who staid back or went home from Louisville when we left there last fall did not get any pay this pay day and you may be sure that there was some swearing among them. I think they will get their full reward the next pay day. Tell En he had better be hunting him a wife before the conscript act takes effect. Sam is safe from the first draw I am looking for another letter from you or Rilla and have to get it soon No more at this time from your affectionate Husband A. F. Davis
