Camp 15th Iowa July 12th My Dear Mother, I came back to camp two days ago - and was very glad to get back too. I was a little tired of the Secesh and did not care to Stay longer with them. They became very violent after the Surrender of V. and it was not at all pleasant to be among them. The officers laugh at me a good deal for requesting to be relieved - said I should have called for reinforcements - and held out until they came. I told them I thought they sent rather a small force to take the place - and retreat was better than submission. I am Sure I do not know what has gone with all my letters to thee.
