that pleasure - as the order is to move to Jackson - not 1/3 of the troops will ever see V at all - for it surrenderd on the 4th and at daylight on the 5th Grant whole army was in motion going towards Jackson - to attend to Johnson - He looses no time as soon as the object was accomplished for which he had massed the army around the city - it melted away without warning - and that night except a tent I scattered here & their & the [?] of a large army having encamped among the hills & vallies - one wd. wonder where they had vanished so suddenly. But I must not write longer. Will sends his love to thee - and says he will write & tell thee how bad I am soon. Do write often to me now - Give my love to all - and have a large share for thyself from both thy children affectionately thy daughter Laura
