Capt" Barber of Co. I. Dennis Morrison & myself. before I Joined the mess the boys had secured the services of a Nego Woman to Cook their rations for Them and They verry Kindely asked me to Join Them. we draw our rations every fiew days and Mary the darkey Cooks it after a fashion so we manage to live tolerably wel. we to day had a peach Cobler for dinner made of some nice Cand peaches that Capt" Barber brot down with him. it went nice with some milk that I bought from a farmer's boy this morning. I do not Know what the Expense will be but it will not amt to much, when divided amongst us all the darkey only Charges 75c per week. there has been some excitemt in Camp the last fiew days about Gurrillers Capt Morse Chief of a band of robbers has been loitering near our picket lines for sometime, has been seen several times within one mile of H'd Qrs. he Captured two of our men on Monday last & two of the finest Horses in the Regt," one of them belonging to the Surgeon Dr Jos. Everingham of West Point. the men were recaptured on the following day by a Scouting party of the 112" Ills but the Horses wer lost. he was seen today within one mile of this place with about 30 men.
