The Pay Master Major Hale was going through to Nashville or Louisville, the next day (yesterday) and Very Kindly offerd to take packages to one of those places and Expres them home for the Soldiers, to any one that we might name. So we made up a Package of green Backs in "Co. "D. and gave him to be Expressed to Charles Bruster of Fort Madison I Sent you 170$ in an Official Envelop, also wrote you a short Letter and sent by mail informing you of what I had done. I do not know whither it was safe to send it in that way or not but it was the best I could do, hope you will get it in due time. I presume there will be some charges on it which you can pay to Mr Bruster. The Amount sent from Co. "D" was 4700$ by sending you the amt that I did I have run myself quite short after paying my wash bill a few dollars that I am owing our Sutler I will have but two or three dollars left, but will try & get along
