We left Rome as you have doubtless learned on the morning of the 11" of November and Started on a Winter Campaign. The City of Rome and all the Camp and Garrison Equippage was burned on the morning of our Departure, as was Kingston and all the Towns that we have passed through since that time The City of Atlanta was Burned to the ground on the 15" of Nov I had the pleasure of seeing it in flames. which paid me in part for the long weary days that I spent last summer behind fortifications & dodging Rebel bulletts. Shermans Army Resumed their march from Atlanta on the 16" of november in 3 Colums our Corps (the 15th) being a part of the Center. Colum the Left Passing through MillageVille capturing that City without any appositon from the Enemy, our Right Passed near Macon and engaged the enemy for a fiew days while the Center and Left Colums were passing, then passed on Leaving them in their glory not deeming the place worth contending for, as all the Rail Road Communications had been
