P.S. As The mail did not leave as soon as I expected concluded to add a few more lines but believe I have told you about all That I have to say at this time, will write you again in a few days and in the future will try to keep you posted in regard to military matters down here, no doubt you are anxious to hear from me but it was impossible for me or any one els to get a letter home until we had communication open by way of the ocean, for the R.R. from Chattanooga was all Destroyed by our army as we passed over it en rout for Atlanta Last month. I am Glad Jim has been promoted for he is well worthy of it & I assure you nothing would please me more than to meet him hope I will have that pleasure soon, We have during the last month passed Through a fine country with the exception of about 3 days travel in the pine swamps and with the exception of four or five days the weather has been beautiful & the Roads good forage has been plenty and while on the move we lived fine had plenty of fish Beef & Pork chickens & Turkeys Gees && in fact
