Saving...
Camp near Vicksburg Miss. Sept. 3rd 1863 My Dear Friend After a long and wearisome Scout we all again back to our old camp at Vicksburg we got back last eavening just at dark it was almost like getting home. we wer gone three weeks we went from here to Memphis Tenn. by way of Yazoo City, Lexington, Durant Grenada and Panola. it was a very interesting trip Yazoo City is a nice little town we stayed there two days the people wer very kind to us we payed for every thing we got on the Scout. I like that way much better than Jay hawking where they dont bushwhack us we dont have any trouble with the bushwhackers here as we did at Helena Lexington is a prettier town than Yazoo City but not so larg. Durant is a small place on the Rail Road that runs from Memphis to Jackson. at Durant we captured a train of cars and attemped to run them north but the rebels burnt the bridges and we had to leave them (written on top and side) Sergt Mann has returned he said he saw you and Sallie at the camp meeting he is a real fine young man dident you all fall in love with him excuse me for writing on both sheet
