861463 PROTECT IT! Aug 13 61 Jefferson Barracks Dear Parants Brothers and Sisters I am here now and it will not be long till we will be sent some place else we got orders to pack up and be ready to leave at a minutes warning we are now ready.and anxious to do some good. it is probable we will go to rawliegh on the railroad west of this as general lyons force is retreating. we are getting our arms now they are old muskets like them at home we raised a big fuss about them but it was all no use. I suppose we will get rifles as soon as the government can get them
