Saturdy morning the troops were marched out to attact while the gun Boats were shelling the fort they Shelled all day Saturday and on Sunday evening the rebels surrendered We got 6 or 8000 prisoners besides a great deal of arms & ammunition They had two very large guns and they were Boath busted by the gun Boats They throwed to Balls into the Musel of the guns and Busted them the rebels had the place well fortified it was one the Bank of the river where it made a Bend and they had full sweep of it up and down The guns of large calabre tha had in large log houses of three theckny of square timbers each piece 16 inches thick or square and had it not been for the gun Boats we could not have done much the rebels losed a great many men we did
