Louisiana In Camp Opport Vicksburg February 15 /63 Dear Father & Mother Your letter of the 1 of January I received and was very glad to know that yours were all well and getting along and I do hope that you will be spared & protected & favored by Divine Providence to a continuity of the same untill I get home which I think will not be very long mabe untill next summer. I dont think the war will last any longer than that time I think if we had Vickburg and Richmond it would wind up in two months but I fear the cry of the secessionist of the north for peace may have a tendency to prolong it. it is a shame that we have such men in the north that go round preaching peace when the rebels say that they will not accept any terms of compromise as anxious as i
