FRIDAY, MAY 27, 1864. Commenced Making out charges Against Earl Wright Co. "K" 10th O.V.C. and Geo. [Artis?] 3rd [?] Cav - Was sent at noon with 29 men and 12 non commissioned officers on picket - had four Out Posts I made my head Qrs at Post No. 1 - all quiet on my line A false alarm was made in some other officers Line. (Vertically, written over entry:-) Visited by Officer of day twice first 2 O'Clock in afternoon second 2 O'Clock at night found us all right SATURDAY 28 Returned from Picket duty about the Middle of after Noon. And was engaged Making out Papers Relating to My Returns SUNDAY 29 A day of Rest to me if not to others, had no duty to perform except what was a work of Necessity Caring for our horses. Was Relieved from Acting officer of the day By Lieut J. C. Parish so that I could be ready to start early on an escort to train [on?] to-Morrow Morning (Vertically, at right of entry:-) Capt. Hays held a dress parade as per order - Punishment Inflicted on him and his Co for Grazing his Horses
