Diary for 1865 12 miles and loaded the teams with corn 48th was sent back as a guard the train got town at 8 oclock. P.M. we went to our quarters with orders to be ready to go with the train, again in the morning 29th Started at 6 oclock. A.M., went out and loaded the teams again and came back 48th being rear guard got to town at 8 oclock at night. 30th orders came for consolidation of 48th and 83rd regt. 31st last day of the year 1864. January 1st month 1865 1st Sunday New year 5th Started home on veteran Furlough on board of the steamer Pauline Carroll arrived at Vicksburg at 9 oclock at night and landed rain 6th Left Vicksburg at 6 oclock, P.m. took on a regiment of New Jersy Cavely bound for Memphis had been on a raid run all night.
