1865 Continued 9th Sunday not verry much fireing in the forenoon Spanish Fort is surrendered this morning report of the fall of the doomed city of Richmond and Petersburg received orders to go to the front rifle pitt at 3 oclock. P.M. and when we got there and got our line formed received orders to be ready to scale the work at the word forward and then to storm the rebble works received the order forward at 5 oclock P.M. evry man scaled the rifle pitt and went with a yell for the rebble fort through a grueling fire of musketry shell and grape shot but nevertheless we went into the rebble works and made them surrender capturing about 3000 prisoners and 30 pieces of Artillery engagement lasted about 55 minutes captured two brigadier generals after dark came back to our old camp loss in 83d 6 killed and 27 wonded
