Monday Sept 1st Started this mornig at 1/2 after 4 and crossed the stream & traveled up the valley 3 or 4 miles. then road leaves valley and goes over rough hills & rough roads to a swampy valley where the boys saw 2 bears come down from the hills & go into the swamps Fired one shot at them but did not take effect. Good roads
