The parliament buildings are situated on a bluff commanding beautiful views of the river up & down the rafts & lumber below make it look quite lively, there are several saw mills here. Smoke was again very bad. August 11th 35 miles up the river to the shores & back 9 miles by stage. these falls are at the top of a bay, you see in front of you a kind of bank, covered sides & top by the interminable forest, over which the water falls in a dozen different places, seeming to work its way through the trees with no visible chanel & looking like patches of snow. Fitzroy bay is certainly a beautiful
