The sentiments of the people here since we got into N.Y. state are very different to what they were in New England. they are democrats anxious for peace not indignant with England bating the administration. they dont seem to have any men except [Mc'lelan?] to put forward put say they dont know but look forward to the Chicago Convention. these people complain not at all of England's neutrality & acknowledge that in shutting her port to Confederate cruisers, she has favored them, so that practically they would seem to do well for their country but I cant agree with them to politics, they care nothing about slavery & acknowledge
