on them while they are screwed up. It ought not to be a very expensive operation as many of the houses raised are rotten old cabins. Left in the evening by the steamer (screw) Dean Richmond stuck on the sand coming out of the harbour for a long time & had to be towed off, the motion of this steamer is not disagreeable like the Cleveland one was. stopped 6 or 7 hours to wood at N Manitou I [stand?] they were desperately slow about it & I must say did it very clumsily I noticed them driving their teams of oxen over log & round a wheelbarrow in the most reckless way when one would have thought it would have been much shorter to wheel away the barrow.
