the much talked of Yankee energy does not show to advantage in these operations. Arr. at Mackinaw on Sep 17th This is a very beautiful island covered with cedar, There is a natural arch here formed I suppose by the cliff having been undermined by the water & the centre of it falling away the present arch being the only thing left standing. Our fair hosts daughter at dinner to-day eat ,fish baked apple & tomatoes all together. Several of the Maple leave here are turned quite a scarlet colour a whole tree turned must have a very beautiful effect. This Island has been lately surveyed & the country round it by the U.S.
