steamer at a house (not a regular Hotel) kept by a man who keeps a small store here it is a pretty spot quite out in the wilds only one or two houses there, there was an Indian tent here they came in a boat it was only built on poles with bark & matting laid over but a very large opening at the top for the smoke in fact the chief use of it seemed to be for a chimney. [Sketch at right] The Indians were a wretched looking set, but a young woman there had a very thick head of hair which she combed with evident care, It was dreary work waiting for the steamer which is irregular on account of the season of the year
