The miners are all old country people, the agent of the mine I went over was an Englishman & received us with English hospitality. What is called "native copper" is found here It is only 6 or 7 years since the first mine was opened: but it is pretty well ascertained that the Indians got copper & also they had a means of hardening it for tools that people have not been able to find out now, copper naturally is a very soft mettle. All the silver found here is bagged by the miners. The mines on the North Shore are supposed to be richer if possible than these & silver lead mines have just been discovered to which a great deal of attention is
