is nearly all the way down hill to Marquette & very dangerous, accidents happen constantly. they take off the engine at the top of the hill & stop the passenger car by breaks, then let it go & it rattles down at an awful pace faster than any train in this country certainly if not in ours. left Marquette about noon arrived at the Sault. about 7.30 A.M. Oct 1st The Sault St Marie rapid do not appear so steep or so rapid as most on the St Lawrence but they are shallow & would not allow steamers to pass over them. a boat runs from The Sault to Collingwood fortnightly
