streets at right angles to each other plenty of shops & it is a real English town. the University is a very fine building in a kind of Norman style with high roofs. Left Toronto at 7 A.M. Octr 4th. per steamer arrived at Niagara about 10 A.M. a tumble down village with a ruined railroad, but they are making another to Fort Erie. crossed over to Youngtown which was a very unnecessary proceeding & only to try & catch the boat which I failed in doing walked to Lewiston along the cliffs above the R. Niagara a beautiful walk. noticed the black wallnuts, something outside like an apple in size & colour but soft skins
