The room where the gold business is transacted is quite small & mean merely at the corner of the street the noise is tremendous "I'll sell at 6" I'll sell at 5-7" &c makes a great noise & then a rumour flies through the crowd where the gold-betting is going on they get more & more excited. excite themselves almost to madness, one would think there was a tremendous fight of words a revolutionary hot-headed dispute going on, & yet there is some power that prevents the disputants laying violent hands on the each other.
