Hd.. Qrs 7" Iowa V. V. Inft Goldsboro N.C. Sunday April 9" 1865 My dear Wife I now write you for the last time from Goldsboro, but hope it will not b[e] long until I can write you from some other point. I have Just returned from Division Head Quarters & was informed there by the A.A. that we would move tomorrow at 10 A.M. so concluded to write you a fiew lines before the desks were all packed up, have nothing in the way of news for you this time, my General health is very good. but I do not feel as much like undertaking a Campaign as I would like to. have not entirely recovered from the poison yet, my hands are badly swollen - & my face & neck is quite sore. but I think I will be all right in a day or too, the weather is beautiful and I do not think the Campaign will be a very long one. for Genl Lee is now within one hundred miles of us and I think it is the entention of Genl Sherman to Cut him off while Grant brings up the Rear
