Government of Ills and others to all parts of the union. The soldiers of the whole army here are cutting and carving at the wood, making mementoes and presents for their friends. It would amuse you to see some of the thousand and one fantastic and often delicate and beautiful ornaments they have made from it. I will promise to send you something of it soon -- perhaps as a Valentine My next younger brother Walter, has enlisted and will come to this regiment. He has just reached the required age -- eighteen -- though he is not very strong -- and I suppose he thinks he will make a tall soldier. I earnestly hope he may and never fail My older brother is at Little Rock with his regiment in the same division with the 29th. I believe all your friends here are well. I understand that Will Mann
