Camp 4" Iowa Cavalry Memphis Tenn July 7th 1864 Miss Jennie Scott My Dear Friend After a long and tedious trip I am again at my home I arrived here safely on the eavening of the 5th I passed my 4th at Cairo it was rather a dull 4th for me I spent my time reading I was on board the Steamer Atlantic, I passed the day very pleasantly to be alone as I was. I met with another disappointment when I got here I was expecting to meet Brother Milt but he had gone out to the Regt. I tried to go out to him this morning but could not I will not see him now till the expedition is over. I do wish I was with him he sent word in for me to come out, but, I couldent get ready
