MRS. STEWART S. FOSTER Route 2, Box 69 Hamburg, Iowa Please return soon Atlanta May 30th 1865 My Dear Friend I have no letter to write this morning but will talk to you alittle before starting back to Washington again. I have been here a week. I do not like the place half so well as Washington. this town is nothing but a pile of ruins. When I wrote to you before there was some talk of our going home we have no such prospects now I think we will remain in the service some months yet. most of the men are very anxious to go home. I would as soon remain in till fall, as to go home now. Please dont scold me will you - It hasent been long since I was at home only a year just one year to day since I arrived at home on Vet-furlough. it doesent seem long. If I should go home on furlough would you be willing for me to remain in the service a year longer? I have rece'd no letters since I wrote to you when I was at Washington I hope you are passing a pleasant Spring time We will soon be paid which we need very much
