20" Reg't went on picket. I was over the town, and saw the effects of our shells. Some houses had upwards of 12 holes through them, and where shells had exploded in the ruins the wreck was awful. All had "gopher holes" dug in in the doorgards. Shells and shot and pieces lay strewn over the town thickly. 21" Reg' came in. 22" Orders to move camp, & put up tents in Regulation Style, Every man to his place. Serg'ts not allowed to put up with
