these boys were escaping from prison and were caught up by this old fellow with the aid of his dogs and handed over to the Military Authorities. Quite a rush for Columbia by 20 A.C. and 1" & 2" Div of our Corps. 14" Started early. Crossed South Edisto, a fine little stream, and marched briskly all day, it raining all the time, Halted near North Edisto after dark. got supper in the rain, then moved across the stream and camped having marched about 18 miles Country very poor, Get a report that the 20" A.C. has taken Columbia with 5000 of our prisoners
