of us. One party or the other used artillery quite freely. We leave Chesterfield some miles on our right "Kill" was charged by the "Johnnies" once during the day and skirmished with them all day. Oh confound this road. I too sick to keep up and the enemy just in our rear, It was a miserable, mean dismal villainous time There has'nt been an hour of sun-shine for 5 days, The "Johns" Gobble quite a number of our foragers every day, We camp inside the [lead?] picket.
