mander Col L -- "played out," Our loss to-day was 13 wounded the 17th, who fought the 17th Tenn, lost 25 - 2 being killed. The whole loss in the brig will fall short of 45 Church did well but his boys did'nt aim well, WWB called us "regulars" & Brannan praised the 1st Brig. Gen said we did the thing the "nicest [Kind?]" The line was advanced two miles the strongest positions being gained 27 A 3 AM. the Reb's felt our line but our pickets met them warmly
