(Added note at head of page:-) *Battery advance beyond the line of skirmishers a fire of grape & shell and drove them from it, The enemy now opened upon us with artilley, but our 4th Mich got a position and soon silenced them Moved to the right and occupied the brow a hill commanding* a valley. Our battery opened but after firing a few rounds were compeled to change position, losing a man and 2 horses, Skirmishing till dark.
