22 Inexpensive Sponge Cake. 1 cup granulated sugar 1 1/2 " flour. Sift 3 times with 1 teaspoonful baking powder [illegible] 3 eggs beaten separately. 1/2 cup cold water. Pour half the water in the sugar, add the beaten yolks -- then the rest of the water & flour alternately. Lastly stir in the whites. Bake 40 minutes.
