the Patient must go into the cold Bath, or a cold Spring or River, every Morning fasting for a Month; he must be dipped all over, but not stay in (with his Head above water) longer than half a Minute, if the water be very cold, after this he must go in three Times a week for a Fortnight longer. The Liverwort is a very common Herb and grows generally in sandy & barren soils all over England. The right time to gather it is in the Months of October or November. This is a Receipt of Dr. Mead's which, in the Experience of above 30 Years upon more than 500 persons, he had never known to fail of success; he says the sooner it is taken after the Bite the better though he had often found it to answer tho' not taken till a Fortnight after. 120. To take Stains out of Scarlet or Yellow Cloth. Lemon or Lime Juice or White wine Vinegar & Spirits of Wine or Hungary Water. Fryar's Balsam 121. An Admirable receipt for many grievances Balsam of Peru one ounce, Storax Calamitatis two ounces, Benjamin impregnated with Sweet almonds three ounces, aloes cicotrini, myrrh Elect, the purest Frankincense, Roots of angelica, Flower of St. John's Wort of each half an ounce, Spirit of wine one pint. The above said Druggs must be beaten & put into a Bottle with the Spirit of wine well stopt & set in the sun all the Dog Days at the end of which you are to strain it thro' a fine linnen Cloth & use it when opportunity calls for it.
