New Port Ginger Bread Miss [Fieston?] 2 lb of flower, 1 lb & 3 quarters of treacle, 1 lb of course sugar, 1 oz of ginger a glass of brandy, and a lemon peel grated, or candied lemon cloves may be substituted Saline Mixture Dr [Pannel?] Take of the salt of wormwood one dram of lemon juice as much as will absorb the salt which may be known by the effervesence or boiling giving over afterwards add 6 oz, or 12 spoonfulls of clear spring water & mix the whole together. NB a little lump of sugar or syrup may be added to the mixture and when the former is made us of it may be rubbed down with salt of wormwood. Lemon Pudding Mrs Dawson one pound of sifted sugar, Half a pound of clarified butter, two lemons, the rind grated off & put into the pudding with the juice, six eggs well beaten, first the beaten eggs second the sugar, third the rind of the lemons, fourthly the butter, and lastly juice of the lemons, mix all together and put a paste at the bottom of the dish, half an hour will bake it, & half the above quantity will make a neat sized pudding.
