over the apples just as it goes to the oven bake it an hour and 1/4 - must approved of by [illegible] for its simplicity To pickle tongues Put the tongues into cold water an hour or two then rub them well with a 1/4 of a lb of salt petre 1/3 lb of coarse sugar or treacle and two handfuls of common salt to each tongue let them remain in the pickle till dressed turning them frequently
