182 Influenza and Cough Poueills Balsam of Arnise 1 Tea spoonful in a Wine glass of Water Night and Morning - tried and approved of by Mrs Smith Gillespie 1838 Persian Cream for the hair Take a Marrow bone of beef and break it well Then put it on the fire with as much water as will cover it, Let it boil 36 hours and then let it stand all night & a day till a thick scum rises to the top - Having cleaned the top of any black surface then take all the thick white part and beat it up for some hours till it becomes white and frothy like eggs - Then drop in some Bergamot or Esprit de Rose and put it up in small pots - August 13th 1846 MS Carnegie Preparation for cleaning Marbles - Take two oz of best pearl ashes one lb of [illegible] Spanish White Dissolve the ashes in about half a pint - of cold water add the Spanish White till the liquid becomes of the thickness of custard & then lay it on the marbles with a painters brush - It must remain for three days & then washed off with a clean flannel & cold Water - From Mrs Cary -
