Recipe for washing white flannels – given by an Australian lady to — Mrs. Gillespie 1904 Mix a table spoonful of soft soap – or bitter coumin "[illegible]" shreded down — with a table spoonful of powdered borax – Dissolve with 1 pint of boiling water – Fill up the bucket with cold water — Soak over night & wash out – in cold water — No hot water should be used in washing Iron before quite dry — Nov 3 -- 05
