Tobacco ointment for rheumatish Take tobacco cut fine Nicolana tabacuen 1/4 lb cover with spirits & add 1 fresh lard [illegible] over a moderate fire. When the heat is a [lente?] crisped then remove & strain For piles a splendid ointment & for herpetic affections For pain in joints from rheumatism Hot bran poultice & vinegar often renewed Irritating plaster for bronchitis etc 1 lb of good thick tar Pinius palustris Gum Turpentine Pineus Palustrus 1/2 lb Take burgundy Pitek Pinius Alries 1/2 lb beeswax 1/2 lb meet strain & boil a few moments then remove from the fire & as it cools stir in the following articales finely pulverized [illegible] & sifted [illegible] 3 oz each pf poke root, mandrake root blood root & Indian turnip. Stir it occasionally till the white [illegible] is well incorporated. Directions spread on a piece of soft leather & place over the part affected. Keep it on as long as it can be borne then remove & put it on again in a day or two if the thing prove too troublesome
