Paste for Paper hanging About 4 lbs wheat flour sifted. Make into a stiff batter with cold water, in a 10 qt pail. Beat the lumps out and 1 oz. pulverized [allum?], at the same time. Have one pour boiling water into the mixture while you stir & beat it. As it cooks it swells & grows semi transparent. When cold it makes about 2/3 of pailful of paste. Thin with cold water if too thick to work easily. If to be used on painted walls add 1/2 oz of resin to each 2 qts. of paste, thinning with gum arabic or glue water. Don't stretch the paper when wet, but pat & press it on the wall. Otherwise it may crack off when dry The quantity is enough for a very large room including ceiling Beware of much allum or the paper will crack off.
