& strip them clean from the Core, beat the Pulp & have in Readiness, 2 lb of double refined Sugar broke in Lumps & every Lump dip'd in Spring Water; boil it to a Syrup, then put in the Pulp & boil it till you think it will jelly but not too long or it will be brown; put no more Water than your Sugar takes in dipping To preserve Barberries. Take the female Barberries in Sprigs & to a lb of Berries make a Syrup of 1 1/2 lb fine Sugar with a little more than half a Pint of Water; then put the Berries into the Syrup & let them have a Boil & scald them every
