-9- in time for the yearly meeting in Stavanger, Norway; and take my daughter, Pauline as my companion, and make no delay regardless of Joel Johnson or Mary W. Stokes. Accordingly I informed Mary W. Stokes that I must go at once whether she went or not. And stated the time we would leave New York. I had not time to wait for an answer from her. I wrote the same information to Joel Johnson. He had written that he was advised by some to wait another year on account of the differences concerning his proposed companion, whom he could not accept. My daughter and I set forth and met Joel and Mary W. Stokes in Philadelphia depot. They were busily engaged arranging for the trip to Norway. We four went to New York that same afternoon; and went on board the ship that evening. We met with Elisha Bye in Liverpool. He was rejoiced to see us, and joined our company to Norway. I was their interpreter for the most part; as will be seen in Joel's account of the travels which are only taken in parts for brevity's sake. I was rejoiced to interpret for him. Joel's weighty and powerful ministry helped to enable me, frail and weak as my bodily condition was to interpret for him. O, the sound of that voice in vocal prayers was beyond anyone I ever heard I beleive. It enabled me to interpret for him in the same life and flow of the gospel, and in the same life and power; in perfect unity. Thus the work was helped forward in both of us in the traveling in unity of spirit. Holding up each other's hands in the vocal labors as, Paul, that eminent apostle said, 'to pray for him that the gospel might have free course.
