-27- We left Oie on the boat, after we had been on board for a while; there was a great cloud of total darkness which came over me. And my way was closed. All of my plans overthrown as to leaving Norway and sailing for England the next day. The boat sailing from Stavanger to Engalnd only once a week. When we arrived in Flekkefjord we stopped at a hotel. And our company went to dinner. I did not go as my appetite was gone. I sat awhile alone and wondered in my mind: why had all of this great disappointment happened to me?-- I took a walk up town alone to fine some consolation--and so I did. When I returned Ida Chamness stood at the door, and asked me, 'what was I going to do.' She advised me to go on to Stavanger; and from there on to England. And she would stay here awhile. She became poorly that night and could not go on. All of these things were only cloud upon cloud to me. No light at all for me to go any farther at present. Ida asked me, 'what was I going to do.' I told her I had decided to stay there til that dark cloud was lifted from my mind, if it took a week. (She being poorly). This is the third time we had planned to leave Norway. (People always are in a hurry to leave the work unfinished I.R.C.) And it seemed clear to me that the Hand of Divine Providence had interfered and overthrown our
