-45- and had a name of being living while they were dead. I am sure many in Norway, England and Scotland and Wales, and on the ships where we had meetings were tenderly reached, and brought to feel the life in their souls to arise over the evil one, who, works to destroy. Many sweet letters have I received from kind friends in many parts of Europe saying, "You will never know the good your visit has done in this country," etc. That pays for all the time and cost and sacrifice I made. Many were turned from darkness to light; and from the power of satan to God. There has been a great declension among Friends in these parts since the rise of our beloved religious society. There still remains a small seed amongst these people. New Port, 25th. We had a meeting here to-night at seven:thirty. Ida is poorly. She expects to to go to meeting. The meeting was not a large one, but satisfactory to us. In this meeting a woman arose from her seat and said to me while I was speaking, 'that she wanted to hear some of the love of God expressed. She had her bible in her hands. And Ida arose at the same time and we endeavored to show her the great love which our heavenly Father had for poor, fallen man; in sending His only begotten Son into the world;
