Saving...
-87- in my mind. I saw Europe, every day in my field. And there was then a letter for me in Philadelphia, marked on it Importance etc; which was to blockade my way to Europe. When I take these things into consideration; I can exclaim with David of old. In contem-plating the works of God he said: Great and marvelous are Thy works, Lord God Almighty; and Thy ways past finding out. I can only pity poor, blind mankind; where we see the scales have not fallen from their eyes. And they go by that which other people say. They are on the sandy founda-tion. And will surely sink; and be washed away by the floods of the Enemy. When the tender impressions of the Spirit of God are lost, or become inactive in man; then coldness is the next stage; like the steps in a ladder til they become hardened in sin. And when sin is fin-ished it bringeth forth death. Not death to the body but, to the imortal soul. No tongue can tell, nor pen portray to the full ex-tent of the meaning. I have thought over it many times. It seems to me it does not only mean destruction; but an everlasting banishment from God. Joel Johnson.
