-98- Windsor, Virginia, Eleventh month, 5th, 1922 Ida R. Chamness, My dear friend, with a sad and broken heart. I will attempt to write you a few lines: of the sadest time of my life; of dear father's illness and death. He was taken to his bed three weeks ago to-day and gradually grew worse; under three of the best doctors' care. On last third-day morning at nine o'clock he had us all called to his bed. And bid us farewell. And waved his hand and blessed us all: and the dear little children. And peacefully fell asleep as a little child from a long day's play. Oh, if my life could only go out like this, I would have joy in meeting dear father and mother on that bliss-ful yonder shore; where there will be no more sorrowing nor crying; for the former things are passed away. He was quietly laid away the following sixth-day, on the old Hill side by dear mother. There was between two hundred and fifty and three hundred in attendance The largest gathering, some said, they had ever seen. He told us about a month before
