thousand dollars for town purposes and three hundred for schools, so we may have [longer?] schools this year. Levi Gordon is Committee in this [dist?] and Father Clark. The summer school commence the first of August and winter school in November. Col. Handess has bought the Charles Spincer place for twelve hundred and fifty dollars and moved on in it. Mrs. Nest - has sold the Sterns place to Calvin Clark and moved back to Ms. Paines, she has lost some but do not know how much Father carried me [up?] Dr. [illegible] week before last and I came back in the card, am gaining some. I have a [soon?] engaged at New London for this summer but shall have to give it ap for I cannot go, I shall not be able and the Dr. does not approve of it. I wanted to graduate [illegible] French but Prof. Sawyer will not let me unless I take another Language in place of it, substituting amongst the lady at New London is out of the question.
