1856 July 3 Micah to Thos. Dunleith, (opposite Dubuque) July 2nd, 1856. Dear Brother Thos. I left Geneseo Tuesday morning in company with Lizzie, bound for Iowa City, but finding Hughitt - an Amherst classmate on board a boat bound for Galena I started up the river immediately, and left L. to find her way alone. To day, I have been running round Dubuque, have made inquiries about Land Warrants. At one place they said they were selling from $1,000 to $1,030, but would offer only 87½. At another place they did not care about purchasing - which is the answer of most of the dealers since the Land offices closed. None would offer $1000. The man whose department I liked the best thought there would be little more demand in Minesota, and if not there near grand lands which could be located; and he would advise
