and being all cut away from the House the windows being broken in not even an old hat would keep the water out. it rained or rather it poured for one week and our condition was anything but pleasant I assure you as we wer dependant upon the sun to dry the house before we could have the roof fixed or repair in the least. I assure you I fully apreciated our [illegible] sun when it at length made its Appearance and with the aid of a [timber?] carpenter paper hanger and painter wer all in order to see New Year [calls?]. the fire occured 13 day of Dec. unfortunately for me my birth day, and for once in [call?] I felt completely Dishearten. hearing of a fire and having one is a vast differance. many do not seem to mind it however judging from the [hase?] in repairing. nothing is slow in this country but making money.
